Full or partial adentia, i.e. the absence of teeth, entails many aesthetic and psychological problems. The smile looks ugly, a person does not want to communicate with others, and becomes withdrawn. The problem becomes a violation of the functionality of the tooth row: it is difficult to bite, chew food. Over time, facial asymmetry occurs, premature wrinkles appear, and gastrointestinal diseases develop.
The solution to the problem is dental implants. Specialists at AESTHET Dental Clinic, located in the UAE, use premium quality implants and modern medical technology to restore your teeth.
Indications for dental implantation
Implantation is a procedure that involves a surgeon placing implants in the patient's jaw. These are pins, rods made of titanium, tantalum, and other similar metals that are highly biocompatible. The post serves as an artificial tooth root. On it is attached a temporary or permanent crown, which imitates the tooth and performs its functions. A screw is usually used for fixation.
The main indication for implantation is the loss of one or more teeth caused by disease, injury or other reasons. The procedure is suitable for people of different ages, including the elderly. The main factors for its performance are the state of health and absence of contraindications.
Metal posts are also used as an alternative to removable dentures, the aesthetic properties of which leave much to be desired. If you use removable dentures, but you are not satisfied with their aesthetics, you can replace them with artificial teeth mounted on implants.
Methods and types of dental implants
Dentists use several protocols. The choice between them depends on the patient's individual characteristics and wishes. One-stage or two-stage protocols are especially often used.
The two-stage protocol is the classic solution. It is a universal method that is applicable in all clinical situations. Its peculiarity is that the procedure is divided into two stages:
- the doctor places the pins, and then you must wait for them to engraft - a process that can take 4-6 months;
- After successful healing, permanent crowns are placed.
Advantage - minimal risk of rejection. Disadvantages - long treatment time, strict requirements to the quality of jaw bone tissue. If the bone is thin and loose, osteoplasty will be necessary. Another problem is that you have to wear temporary crowns for several months. This causes discomfort for some patients.
The one-step protocol saves time because the procedure is done in one appointment. You can come to the clinic and leave the same day with new teeth. The surgeon places the implants and then immediately loads them with permanent crowns.
Advantages - minimal traumatization, the possibility of not wearing removable temporary dentures. Disadvantages - not suitable for restoring dental units that are subjected to high chewing loads, not performed in poor bone health.
The following techniques are used less frequently:
- one-stage - immediately after tooth extraction, an implant is implanted into the hole left by the tooth, which is loaded with a temporary crown;
- mini-implantation - special shortened pins are used to securely fix removable dentures, although this option is usually used as a temporary one.
The protocols also differ depending on how many posts will be used. If the entire tooth row or a significant portion of it is to be restored, the All-on-4 or All-on-6 protocols are used: the doctor places four or six implants. If a single tooth or several teeth are to be restored, a smaller number of metal rods are used.
Preparatory procedures for quality implantation
A good result can only be achieved with proper preparation.
The procedure begins with a dental consultation. The patient comes to the appointment. The doctor examines the oral cavity, asks clarifying questions, if necessary, prescribes diagnostics to assess the general state of health and identify contraindications.
Then the doctor tells you about the available options for restoring the dentition. If the patient agrees, you can move on to the next stage - preparation.
Surgical intervention is performed only under the condition of perfect oral hygiene. Therefore, the list of preparatory measures usually includes:
- treatment of caries, other diseases of teeth and gums;
- treatment of inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx and oral cavity;
- A professional cleaning, with which the dentist removes soft and hard plaque.
Additionally, you may need:
- Removal of partially or completely destroyed dental units;
- osteoplasty, which rebuilds bone tissue;
- remineralization, fluoridation of teeth.
Stages of dental implantation
Regardless of the protocol chosen, implantation is a process that consists of several stages.
During the planning phase, the doctor will map out the implant sites. He or she uses computer programs to visualize the jaw and determine the optimal implant sites and the angle at which each post will be inserted.
The next stage is the surgical stage. First, anesthesia must be administered so that the patient does not feel pain during the operation. Next, the surgeon prepares the well and the bed where the implant will be located. After that, the doctor installs a pre-selected post.
The doctor's next steps depend on whether he or she is working on a two-stage or a one-stage protocol.
In a two-stage protocol, the artificial roots are covered with plugs to protect the surgical area from pathogenic microflora. The doctor then sutures the root plugs, and then the patient leaves to return in a few months when the posts have healed.
With the one-stage protocol, the surgeon immediately proceeds to the next stage, the prosthetic stage. On the implanted posts, he installs crowns made in the laboratory in advance. They are made of special ceramics or zirconium dioxide - strong, durable materials that imitate natural tooth enamel with the utmost possible convincing. The shade is discussed with the patient, making the products look extremely natural.
When the dentist's work is complete, the patient is able to take full advantage of the new artificial teeth.
Implant technologies
Implantation is a high-tech procedure. The doctor plans it carefully. A CT scan is used to obtain information about the condition of the jawbone.
Navigation programs allow you to plan step-by-step the actions that the surgeon will take during the operation. A surgical template is prepared in advance on the computer. Thanks to it, it is possible to perform basic manipulations quickly, without incisions. The doctor marks the optimal places for installation, taking into account the roots of neighboring teeth, the location of root canals and nerves. This allows him to place the artificial roots through small punctures and accurately position them on the bed.
Manipulations are performed under the control of a dental microscope. The magnification allows to ensure the accuracy of the surgeon's actions, minimal traumatization of the operations he performs.
The AESTHET Clinic uses premium quality implants created by the world's leading manufacturers. These are products of such companies as:
- Zimmer (USA) - made of tantalum, grafting rate is 100%, with accelerated osseointegration time;
- Astra Tech (Sweden) - characterized by particularly fast fusion with the jawbone and excellent indicators of primary stability, due to which they are suitable for implantation with immediate loading, the grafting rate is 99.7%;
- Straumann (Switzerland) - made of pure titanium, unique rough surface ensures particularly fast osseointegration, grafting rate of 99.9%.
Implantation is performed under local anesthesia. The alternative is sedation, immersion in a mild, safe medicated sleep. This option is suitable for patients who cannot overcome their fear of the dentist. Sedation is administered under the supervision of an experienced anesthesiologist. It does not require a long time out of sleep and special rehabilitation, does not entail side effects.
Advantages of performing dental implants
This technology is used to restore a tooth row even if the supporting teeth are missing and without grinding.
The merits of the procedure are:
- restoring the functionality of the teeth - the ability to bite and chew food;
- No food restrictions - permanent fixed prostheses allow you to eat any foods, including dense, viscous, hard foods;
- stopping bone loss - as a consequence, there is no facial asymmetry, no premature wrinkles, the jaw and gums retain their natural shape, which cannot be achieved with removable prosthetics;
- lack of discomfort - the adaptation process is as fast as possible, crowns on implants are not perceived as foreign objects in the mouth, do not interfere with eating and talking;
- excellent aesthetic performance - crowns are almost indistinguishable from natural teeth;
- long life of implant crowns - it can last for decades, with proper care you can achieve lifelong results.

Questions and answers
Will I get an implant if I lost a tooth a long time ago?
It's possible. But if the bone tissue has thinned, implants cannot be placed in it. The problem is solved with a sinus elevator, which is a preliminary bone augmentation.
While the implant takes root, will I have to walk around with a gap in my dentition?
No. If a two-step protocol is used, temporary crowns made of hypoallergenic material are placed on the teeth that are visible when smiling. Their color is matched to the patient's natural shade of tooth enamel, so these crowns do not attract too much attention.
Is it true that implants cannot be placed in smokers?
Not true. Smoking is not on the list of contraindications to implantation. But people who smoke a lot tend to have loose bone tissue. So it will take longer for the implants to take root.
